Three Ways to Reduce Traffic Jams in the Drive-Thru

These days, drive-thru queues seem more crowded than ever. Yes, there are lots of cars in the queue, but the traffic often gets more congested due to poor lane design, a small lot, and customers who aren’t sure how to navigate the drive-thru process. Here are three tips for cutting down on the congestion:

1. Adopt a multi-lane configuration. If you have room on the lot, add more lanes to your restaurant. If you have a small lot, add Y-lanes or tandem lanes to optimize the space.

2. Deploy line busting teams. Use line-busting teams instead of just one or two line busters. Equip them with mobile tablets so they can get orders to kitchen immediately.

3. Make it easy for guests to navigate your lot. Post signage or cones at the entrance and throughout your lot so new customers know where to go. Position signs to direct remote order customers to their dedicated lanes and/or parking area.
