How to Properly Sanitize HME Drive-Thru Parts

Many of our CE Repairs customers use HME drive-thru parts and equipment such as headsets and timer systems. Sanitizing them not only reduces the number of germs on their surfaces to a safe level, it also extends the life of the parts. Here’s how:

Practice Safety. Turn off equipment, wear gloves and ensure proper ventilation when cleaning. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners, such as ammonia, bleach or acetone-based cleaners, hydrogen peroxide, abrasive or power cleaners, disinfectant wipes, and glass cleaner or nail polish as these can damage the equipment.

Use A 50% Cleaning Solution. Mix one-part Isopropyl Alcohol and one-part distilled water for a 50% alcohol solution. Concentrations above 50% do not increase sanitizing strength; however, solutions lower than 50% are much less effective.

Use Proper Cleaning Techniques. Turn off and disconnect the device before you start cleaning, and wipe with a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt. Spray the water-isopropyl solution onto a microfiber cloth, then rub it on the device. Make sure the cloth is damp but not wet. Use a smooth, steady pressure to avoid damaging buttons, keys, displays or surfaces. After cleaning, replace any foam parts such as earpads as necessary.

Clean and sanitized drive-thru parts can still need repairing due to accidents, incorrect use, or lack of maintenance. CE can fix them quickly and correctly. We minimize equipment down time with same-day service on most repairs and our Advance Exchange program. Our factory trained technicians conduct repairs according to manufacturer specifications and use quality replacement parts. Most important, we provide a 4-month warranty on every repair.
