Headset systems are one of the most important drive-thru parts in a QSR drive-thru lane. If you can’t clearly communicate with customers, it slows down service times and leads to more order mistakes.
Modern headset systems are designed to provide a long and reliable service life. But as with all drive-thru parts, they will eventually wear down and require repair or replacement – and that’s assuming you don’t break them first through lack of maintenance or improper use.
Making daily headset cleaning and maintenance a standard operating procedure will help reduce repairs and extend the service life of your essential drive-thru headsets. This includes:
- Clean headsets at the end of each shift. Use a soft bristle toothbrush to gently remove food particles from around the buttons. Then apply a mild cleaner to the rest of the headset.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify unusual signs of wear and tear. Keep an eye out for small cracks that could allow liquids into the interior and damage the headset.
- Ear pads can easily get torn or clogged with grease or other debris. As a rule of thumb, plan to replace the pads every two to three months.
- Train employees not to bend, twist or stretch headsets in order to get a more comfortable fit. Frequent bending and twisting can leave them permanently out of shape.
